General Questions
Will a 24x35 carport fit my RV and boat?
A 24x35 provides 840 sq ft with 12-foot height — enough to cover most Class C RVs and standard boats side by side, or a single larger Class A motorhome. Measure your vehicles including any rooftop accessories to confirm clearance.
What sizes are available for commercial metal buildings?
Our commercial metal buildings range from 30x40 for small businesses up to 100x200+ for large warehouses and industrial facilities. Clear-span designs eliminate interior columns, giving you maximum usable floor space for your operation.
What is the most popular metal garage size?
The most popular sizes are 24x30 and 30x40 for residential use. A 24x30 comfortably fits two vehicles with workspace, while a 30x40 provides room for a full workshop. We offer sizes from 12x20 all the way up to 60x100+.
What can I fit in a 30x40 garage with lean-to?
The main 30x40 bay provides 1,200 sq ft — enough for 3-4 vehicles, a full workshop, or equipment storage. The lean-to adds extra covered space for parking, outdoor work, or additional storage without a separate structure.
What size building do I need for my RV?
Measure your RV and add at least 2-3 feet on each side and 2 feet of height clearance. Most Class A motorhomes need a building at least 14 feet wide, 40-45 feet long, and 14 feet tall. Class C RVs typically fit in an 18x30x12 structure.
What size metal carport do I need for two cars?
A standard two-car carport is typically 20x20 or 24x20 feet. If you want extra room for opening doors comfortably or storing additional items, consider going up to 24x24 or 24x30. Our team can help you determine the perfect size based on your vehicles.
Is a 20x20 carport big enough for two cars?
A 20x20 carport provides 400 sq ft — enough for two compact or mid-size vehicles parked side by side. For larger trucks or SUVs, consider stepping up to a 24x24 for more comfortable door-opening clearance.
What is the maximum size for a metal warehouse?
We build metal warehouses up to 100 feet wide and virtually unlimited length. Clear-span designs up to 60 feet wide eliminate interior columns for maximum storage flexibility. For wider buildings, interior columns can be added.
How many horses can this barn hold?
The exact capacity depends on stall configuration, but as a general guide, plan for 12x12 feet per stall plus aisle space. Our building specialists can help you design the ideal layout for your equestrian needs.
What can I customize on a metal building?
Nearly everything. You can customize the size, roof style, wall height, colors, door types and placement, window locations, insulation, lean-tos, wainscoting, and more. Our design team works with you to create a building that fits your exact needs.
What size metal barn do I need for horses?
For horse stalls, plan for 12x12 feet per stall plus aisle space. A 30x40 barn comfortably houses 3-4 horses with a center aisle. For larger operations, 40x60 or 60x80 barns provide room for more stalls, tack rooms, and feed storage.
What height clearance does this RV garage provide?
Check the listed building height and subtract 6 inches for the door header. For most Class A motorhomes, you need at least 13-14 feet of interior clearance. Measure your RV with all rooftop accessories extended.
What is a side entry garage?
A side entry garage has garage doors on the side wall rather than the end wall. This design is ideal for properties where the driveway approaches from the side, or when you want the front of the building to have a clean, door-free appearance.
What is the ideal size for a home workshop?
Most home workshops range from 24x30 to 30x50 feet. A 30x40 workshop is the most popular choice, providing enough room for a workbench, tool storage, and a vehicle or two. Consider your equipment needs and future plans when choosing a size.

Can I expand or add onto my metal building later?
Yes, metal buildings are designed to be expandable. You can add length to an existing building by extending the frame and adding new panels, or add a lean-to on one or both sides for extra covered space. Planning for future expansion at the time of your initial order is smart — we can position doors and frame openings to make future additions easier. Contact us with your existing building details and we'll help you plan the expansion.
What doors should I choose for a workshop?
Most workshops include at least one large roll-up garage door (10x10 or 12x12) for moving equipment and vehicles in and out, plus a walk-in door for everyday access. Adding windows improves natural lighting and ventilation.
How long does it take to install a metal carport?
Most standard carports are installed in a single day by our professional crew. Larger or more customized structures may take 1-2 days. Installation is always free and included with your order.
What foundation do I need for a metal garage?
We recommend a level concrete pad for enclosed garages, though some customers use compacted gravel or asphalt. The foundation should be level within a few inches. Our installation team will anchor the building securely to your chosen foundation.
Are there any size limitations for custom buildings?
We can build custom structures from as small as 12x12 up to 100+ feet wide and virtually any length. For very large or complex projects, we provide engineered drawings and work with your local building department to ensure code compliance.

How long do metal buildings last?
With proper care, our metal buildings are designed to last 20-30+ years or more. All structures feature galvanized steel construction (12 or 14-gauge framing, 29-gauge panels) with a durable baked-on paint finish. We back every building with a 20-year rust-through warranty on panels and a workmanship guarantee on installation.
Do your buildings come with a warranty?
Yes! All buildings include a 20-year rust-through warranty on panels and a 1-year workmanship warranty on installation. The galvanized steel framing is designed for decades of structural integrity. These warranties give you peace of mind that your investment is protected.
What gauge steel is used?
We use 14-gauge galvanized steel framing for standard residential buildings and 12-gauge galvanized steel for larger or certified structures. All roof and wall panels are 29-gauge steel with a durable baked-on paint finish. The 12-gauge option provides approximately 20% more steel thickness for superior strength.
What are the three roof styles?
We offer three roof styles: (1) Regular — rounded edges with horizontal panels, most economical option best for mild climates; (2) A-Frame Horizontal — classic peaked roof with horizontal panels, great appearance and good weather resistance; (3) Vertical — peaked roof with vertical panel orientation, our strongest option that sheds rain and snow most effectively. Vertical is recommended for areas with heavy weather.
How long does it take to get a metal building from order to installation?

Are metal buildings safe in lightning storms?
Yes. Metal buildings are actually safer than wood structures during lightning storms. If struck, the steel frame conducts electricity safely to the ground without catching fire. Metal buildings do not attract lightning any more than other structures of similar height.
Can I anchor a metal building to an existing slab?
Yes. Our buildings can be anchored to existing concrete slabs using concrete wedge anchors or chemical anchors. The slab should be level, in good condition, and meet minimum thickness requirements. Our installation crew handles the anchoring.
Do metal buildings rust?
Our buildings use galvanized steel framing and painted sheet metal panels designed to resist rust and corrosion. With basic maintenance — keeping debris off the roof, touching up any scratches, and ensuring proper drainage — your building will resist rust for decades.
Can I put a metal building on a mobile home lot?
In many areas, yes. However, mobile home parks and manufactured home communities may have restrictions on additional structures. Check with your park management and local zoning office before ordering.
How do metal buildings hold up in hurricanes?
With proper engineering, metal buildings can be designed to withstand hurricane-force winds up to 170+ MPH. Coastal customers should request wind load certification matching their local code requirements. Vertical roof style and 12-gauge framing provide the strongest wind resistance.
Can I build a second story in a metal building?
Yes, with proper engineering. A mezzanine or full second floor can be added to metal buildings with sufficient height. This requires engineered drawings to ensure the frame can support the additional load. Talk to our team about designing a multi-level building.
Are metal buildings noisy when it rains?
Without insulation, rain on a metal roof can be louder than on a shingled roof. Adding insulation significantly reduces noise — an insulated metal building is comparable to a traditional structure in terms of sound. Many customers find the rain sound pleasant.
Can I move a metal building to a different location?
In many cases, yes. Metal buildings are designed to be disassembled and reassembled. This is one advantage over permanent construction. However, moving costs and the condition of the building should be considered. Contact us for guidance on relocating your building.
What is the resale value of a metal building?
Metal buildings retain value well because of their durability and versatility. A well-maintained metal building can last 40+ years and serves many purposes, making it attractive to future property buyers. It can also be relocated if needed.
What is the difference between 14-gauge and 12-gauge framing?
14-gauge steel is our standard framing — it is strong, durable, and suitable for most residential and light commercial applications. 12-gauge steel is thicker and stronger, recommended for larger buildings (over 30 feet wide), high wind and snow load areas, or commercial applications where extra structural integrity is needed. Think of it this way: 14-gauge is the standard for most buildings, while 12-gauge is the premium upgrade for demanding conditions.
What is the difference between the three roof styles?
Regular (or economy) roofs have horizontal panels with rounded corners — the most affordable option. A-frame (boxed eave) roofs have horizontal panels with a traditional A-shaped roofline — they look like a conventional roof. Vertical roofs have panels that run up and down, allowing rain, snow, and debris to slide off easily — this is the premium option and strongly recommended for areas with heavy weather. Vertical roofs include a ridge cap and hat channels for extra strength.
Can I use a metal building as a home or living space?
Metal buildings make excellent shells for residential spaces, often called "barndominiums" or "she-sheds." The steel structure provides the frame, roof, and exterior walls, while you handle the interior finishing — insulation, drywall, plumbing, electrical, and HVAC. Many customers choose metal buildings for homes because of their durability, speed of construction, and lower cost per square foot compared to traditional stick-built homes.
How do I maintain my metal building?
Metal buildings are very low maintenance. Inspect the roof and walls annually for any loose screws or damaged panels. Keep gutters and downspouts clear of debris. Trim vegetation away from the base to prevent moisture buildup. If you notice any scratches in the paint, touch them up with matching paint to prevent surface rust. With basic care, your metal building will last 30+ years with minimal upkeep.

Yes! We include free delivery and professional installation on all metal buildings within our service area covering the contiguous United States. There are no hidden fees or surprise charges. Your quote includes everything — delivery, installation, and anchoring. Our installation crews typically complete most residential buildings in one day.
Why don't you list prices on the website?
Metal building prices vary significantly based on your location, the current cost of steel, building size, roof style, and customizations. Rather than showing outdated or inaccurate prices, we provide free personalized quotes so you get the real price for your specific building and location.
What is included in the price of a metal building?
Your quoted price includes the complete building package: all steel framing, roof and wall panels, trim, fasteners, anchors, doors as specified, plus free delivery and professional installation. The only thing not included is your site preparation and foundation.
Do metal building prices change throughout the year?
Yes. Steel prices fluctuate based on raw material costs and market conditions. Prices can increase or decrease over time. Locking in your order with a deposit secures your price — even if steel costs rise before your installation date.
What factors affect the price of a metal building?
The main factors are: (1) size — width, length, and height directly impact material quantity, (2) steel gauge — 12-gauge framing costs more than 14-gauge but adds strength, (3) roof style — vertical roofs cost more than regular or boxed eave but offer better weather performance, (4) enclosure level — fully enclosed buildings cost more than open carports, (5) doors and windows — each opening adds cost, and (6) certifications — wind and snow load engineering adds a nominal fee. Contact us for a free, no-obligation quote tailored to your exact needs.
How does building size affect the price per square foot?
Larger buildings generally cost less per square foot than smaller ones because fixed costs like delivery, setup, and base framing are spread over more area. A 30x40 building is significantly more cost-effective per square foot than a 12x20.
Are there any extra costs beyond the quoted price?
Your quote includes the complete building, delivery, and installation. Additional costs you should budget for separately include site preparation (grading and leveling), your foundation (concrete pad or gravel), electrical wiring, and any building permits required by your jurisdiction.
Are there any hidden fees or costs I should know about?
No. Our quoted prices include free delivery and free professional installation on your prepared site. The price you're quoted is the price you pay — no surprise fees for fuel, mileage, or labor. The only additional costs would be for site preparation (concrete pad or gravel) which is handled by you or a local contractor before we arrive, and any required permits from your local building department.
Does upgrading the roof style cost more?
Yes — vertical roof is the most durable option and costs slightly more than boxed eave or regular roof styles. However, many customers find the investment worthwhile because vertical roofs last longer, shed snow and debris better, and require less maintenance.
How do I get a quote?
Getting a quote is free and easy! You can: (1) Fill out our online quote form on any page, (2) Call us directly at (888) 234-0475, or (3) Use our Design Tool to configure your building and submit a quote request. Financing & Rent-to-Own
What is the rent-to-own (RTO) program?
Our RTO program lets you get your building now and pay over time with no credit check required. You'll work with one of our approved RTO partners (EZPay Buildings, RTO National, or Heartland) with terms of 48-60 months. Financing up to $20,000 is available. There's no penalty for early payoff and your payments go toward full ownership. Available in most states — call us to check eligibility.
What financing options are available?
We offer two main financing paths: (1) Traditional financing with approved credit for terms up to 60 months at competitive rates, and (2) Rent-to-own (RTO) with no credit check required and terms up to 60 months. Both options include low monthly payments. Contact us at (888) 234-0475 to discuss which option works best for your budget.
What credit score do I need for metal building financing?
Financing requirements vary by lender. We work with multiple financing partners who offer options for a range of credit profiles. The rent-to-own program has no credit check at all — just a valid ID, proof of income, and proof of land ownership or lease.
How much is the monthly payment on a metal building?
Monthly payments depend on the building price, your down payment, financing term, and interest rate. Contact us at (888) 234-0475 for a personalized payment estimate based on the specific building you are interested in.
Can I put a metal building on rented or leased land?
For rent-to-own, you typically need proof of land ownership or a long-term lease. For financed buildings, requirements vary by lender. Metal buildings can be relocated in some cases, so talk to your building specialist about your situation.
What happens if I miss a rent-to-own payment?
Contact your RTO provider immediately if you anticipate a missed payment. Most providers have grace periods and will work with you to find a solution. Consistent late or missed payments may result in the building being repossessed.
Is there a minimum or maximum building size for financing?
Most financing and RTO programs are available for buildings of all sizes we offer. Very large commercial buildings may require different financing arrangements. Call us to discuss the best financing option for your specific project.
What is the difference between financing and rent-to-own?
Traditional financing is a loan — you own the building from day one and make payments to the lender. Rent-to-own (RTO) is a lease-purchase agreement — you rent the building with the option to purchase it at the end of the term. RTO requires no credit check and only needs proof of income and a valid ID, making it accessible to more customers. Financing typically offers lower total cost, while RTO offers easier qualification and flexibility.
Can I pay off my rent-to-own building early?
Yes, and we encourage it. Our RTO program has no early payoff penalty. You can pay off the remaining balance at any time during your contract and immediately own the building outright. Many customers use RTO as a way to get their building installed quickly and then pay it off within the first year or two to save on the total cost. Contact your RTO provider directly to get a current payoff amount.
Who qualifies for the rent-to-own (RTO) program?
Almost everyone qualifies. There is no traditional credit check — you just need proof of income (such as a pay stub or bank statement) and a valid government-issued ID. The RTO program allows you to make monthly payments and own the building at the end of the term. You can also pay off the remaining balance early at any time with no penalty. It is one of the easiest ways to get a metal building if you prefer not to pay in full upfront.
Can I finance a large commercial building?
Yes. For larger commercial structures, we work with several financing partners who offer competitive rates and terms. Options include traditional financing with credit approval, equipment loans, and SBA-eligible financing for qualifying businesses. Your building specialist can walk you through the available financing options based on your building size and business needs.
Delivery & Installation
How long does installation take?
Most residential metal buildings (garages, carports, barns up to 30x40) are installed in one day by our professional crew. Larger commercial buildings (40x60+) may take 2-3 days depending on size and complexity. You'll receive a scheduled installation date approximately 4-6 weeks after placing your order.
Do I need a concrete pad or foundation?
It depends on your building type. Carports and open structures can be anchored directly to level ground (dirt, gravel, or asphalt) using ground anchors. Enclosed garages and buildings are recommended to have a concrete pad for the best long-term results, though asphalt and compact gravel are also options. We'll advise on the best foundation for your specific building and location.
How is my metal building delivered?
Your building is delivered in panels on a company truck directly to your site. Our professional installation crew arrives with all materials and assembles your building on-site. There is nothing you need to arrange separately — everything is included.
Is delivery really free?
Yes — free delivery and installation are included with every order. There are no hidden delivery fees or surcharges. We deliver and install across 33 states.
How do I track my order and delivery date?
After placing your order, you will receive a confirmation with your estimated delivery window. Our team will contact you 7-10 days before installation to schedule the exact date. You can also call us anytime at (888) 234-0475 for a status update.
What if my property has limited access for delivery trucks?
Let us know about any access restrictions when you order — narrow driveways, low-hanging trees, soft ground, or gated communities. Our logistics team will work with you to plan the best delivery route and approach.
Can I get my building certified for wind and snow loads?
Yes! We offer certified buildings that meet local building code requirements for wind loads (up to 170 mph in Florida) and snow loads (up to 40+ PSF). Certification is required in many areas and is available as an option on all structures. Our team will help determine the certification requirements for your specific location.
Can I reschedule my installation date?
Yes. If you need to change your installation date, contact us as soon as possible. We will work with our scheduling team to find a new date that works for you, subject to crew availability in your area.
How far in advance should I order my building?
Current lead times typically run 4 to 8 weeks from order to installation, depending on your location, building complexity, and seasonal demand. Spring and summer are our busiest seasons, so ordering early gives you the best scheduling options. We lock in your price at the time of order, so even if material prices change, your quote stays the same.
What areas do you deliver to?
We deliver and install metal buildings across most of the continental United States. Our coverage spans from coast to coast, with particularly strong service networks in the Southeast, Midwest, Texas, and mid-Atlantic states. Delivery is always free regardless of distance. Check our Service Areas page or call us to confirm availability in your specific location.
What happens on installation day?
Our professional crew arrives with all materials and equipment. For a standard building (up to about 30x40), installation typically takes one day. Larger or more complex structures may take 2-3 days. The crew handles everything — anchoring the base rails, erecting the frame, installing panels, doors, windows, and trim. You do not need to be present for the entire installation, but someone should be available to do a final walk-through and sign off.
Do I need to prepare my site before installation?
Yes — your site needs to be level within 3 inches across the footprint of the building. The most common foundations are a level gravel pad (most economical), a poured concrete slab (best for garages and workshops), or compacted earth. The site should be accessible by delivery truck. Remove any overhead obstructions like tree limbs or power lines. We provide detailed site preparation guidelines when you place your order.
Can I install the building on an existing concrete pad?
In most cases, yes. If you have an existing concrete slab, we can anchor the building directly to it. The slab should be level and in good structural condition. We will need the exact dimensions and any slope information to make sure the building fits properly. Our team can advise on any modifications that might be needed.
What happens if the weather delays my installation?
Our installation crews do not work in heavy rain, snow, or dangerous wind conditions for safety reasons. If weather causes a delay, your crew lead will contact you to reschedule as soon as conditions improve — typically within a few days. There is no additional charge for weather-related rescheduling. Your building materials will be safely stored and transported to your site on the rescheduled date.
Can I be present during installation?
You're welcome to observe the installation, and many customers enjoy watching their building go up. However, for safety and liability reasons, we ask that you and any family members stay a safe distance from the active work area. Our crew lead will walk you through the completed building at the end and point out all features, doors, and any care instructions before they leave.
Customization Options
What doors and windows can I add?
We offer a full range of door and window options. Roll-up garage doors come in standard sizes from 8x8 up to 14x14 feet — perfect for vehicles, equipment, or large equipment access. Walk-in doors are 36x80 inches, available in 6-panel or commercial styles. Windows come in 30x36 or 24x36 sizes, with optional grids. You can place doors and windows on any wall, and add as many as you need.
What colors are available for my building?
We offer 16 standard colors for roof, walls, and trim, including popular options like Barn Red, Clay, Pebble Beige, Light Gray, Charcoal, Black, Evergreen, and more. You can mix and match colors — for example, tan walls with brown wainscoting and white trim. Two-tone wall colors (wainscoting) add a finished, professional look at minimal extra cost.
Can I add insulation to my metal building?
Yes. We offer several insulation options depending on your needs. Standard vinyl-backed insulation provides basic temperature regulation. For conditioned spaces like workshops or living areas, we recommend spray foam or batt insulation installed after the building is erected. Insulation also reduces condensation inside the building. If you plan to insulate, let us know upfront so we can add extra framing depth.
What is wainscoting and do I need it?
Wainscoting is a second color panel installed on the lower 3 feet of your building walls. It gives your building a two-tone, finished appearance — similar to a brick or stone base on a traditional building. Beyond looks, wainscoting also protects the lower wall panels from ground-level damage like lawn equipment, dirt splash, and minor impacts. It is a popular upgrade and we highly recommend it.
Sizing & Dimensions
What sizes do your metal buildings come in?
We offer metal buildings from 12 feet wide all the way up to 60+ feet wide, with virtually unlimited length. Standard widths include 12, 18, 20, 22, 24, 26, 28, 30, 36, 40, 50, and 60 feet. Length can be customized in 5-foot increments. Heights range from 6 to 20 feet at the eave. If you need a non-standard size, our design team can create a custom configuration for you.
How do I figure out what size building I need?
Start with what you plan to store or do inside. For vehicle storage, measure your vehicles and add at least 3 feet on each side for door clearance and walking room. A standard two-car garage is typically 24x30, while a three-car garage starts at 30x30. For workshops, plan for workbench space, tool storage, and room to maneuver around projects. For RVs and boats, measure the vehicle height and add 2-3 feet for clearance. Our building specialists can help you calculate the ideal size — just call (888) 234-0475.
Can I add a lean-to to my building?
Absolutely. Lean-tos are one of our most popular additions. You can add a lean-to on one, two, or three sides of your main structure. They are great for covered parking, extra storage, workshop areas, or livestock shelter. Lean-tos typically range from 8 to 12 feet wide and share the wall of the main structure, saving material costs. You can enclose them fully or leave them open.
What is the tallest building you offer?
Our standard buildings go up to 20 feet at the eave (the lowest point of the roof). With a vertical roof pitch, the peak can be significantly higher. For extra-tall applications like RV storage or commercial use, we commonly build 14-16 foot eave heights. If you need something taller, our engineering team can design a custom solution.
Permits & Regulations
How do I find out if I need a permit?
Contact your local city or county building department. They can tell you exactly what permits are required for your property and location. Requirements vary widely — some rural areas have minimal requirements while urban areas may require full engineering plans.
Can you provide engineered drawings for my permit application?
Yes. We can provide stamped, state-specific engineered drawings for your building when required by your local building department. Let us know your jurisdiction's requirements when you order, and we will include the appropriate engineering.
What is a wind load certification?
A wind load certification is an engineer's stamp confirming your building is designed to withstand specific wind speeds required by your local building code. Coastal and high-wind areas often require 130-150 MPH wind load ratings.
What is a snow load certification?
A snow load certification confirms your building can support the weight of accumulated snow, measured in pounds per square foot (PSF). Northern states and mountain areas typically require 20-40+ PSF snow load ratings.
Do agricultural buildings need permits?
Agricultural building permit requirements vary by state and county. Many rural areas exempt agricultural structures from standard building permits, but there may still be setback, height, or lot coverage requirements. Always check with your local planning office.
Do I need a building permit for a metal carport?
Permit requirements vary by county and municipality. Many areas require permits for structures over a certain square footage, while smaller open carports may be exempt. We recommend checking with your local building department before ordering. Our team can help you understand common requirements in your area and provide any engineering documents or certifications needed for the permitting process.
What building codes do your metal buildings meet?
Our metal buildings can be engineered and certified to meet local building codes across all 46 states we serve. This includes wind load ratings up to 170 MPH and snow load ratings up to 65 PSF depending on your location. We provide stamped engineering drawings and certification documents when required by your local jurisdiction. Just let us know your zip code and we'll confirm the certifications available for your area.
Are there HOA restrictions on metal buildings?
Many homeowner associations have specific guidelines about outbuildings, including metal structures. Common restrictions include size limits, placement setbacks, color requirements, and whether the building must match your home's aesthetic. We offer a wide range of colors and styles — including residential-look boxed eave roofs and wainscoting — that often satisfy HOA requirements. We recommend reviewing your HOA covenants before ordering.
Do I need a foundation inspection before installation?
Some jurisdictions require a foundation or site inspection before a structure can be installed. If your area requires one, the concrete pad or gravel base will need to be completed and inspected before our crew arrives. Our building specialists can advise on common local requirements and provide the site preparation specifications your contractor or inspector will need.
Can I place a metal building on my property without zoning approval?
Zoning regulations control what types of structures can be placed on a property and where they can be located. Most residential, agricultural, and commercial zones allow metal buildings, but setback distances from property lines, easements, and size limits vary. Contact your local zoning or planning department to confirm your property's allowances before ordering. Our team can provide building dimensions and specs to help with your zoning application.
Components & Materials
What gauge steel should I choose?
We offer 14-gauge and 12-gauge steel framing. 14-gauge is standard and suitable for most residential buildings. 12-gauge is thicker, stronger, and recommended for larger buildings, high-wind areas, snow-prone regions, or commercial applications.
What are hat channels and how are they used?
Hat channels are horizontal metal supports that run between the vertical framing members. They provide additional attachment points for wall and roof panels and increase the overall rigidity of the structure.
What type of screws are used to assemble the building?
We use self-tapping galvanized steel screws with neoprene washers. The neoprene washer creates a watertight seal at each screw point, preventing leaks. All fasteners are included with your building.
What are leg heights and why do they matter?
Leg height is the height of the vertical wall from the ground to the eave (where the roof begins). Standard leg heights start at 6 feet, with options up to 16+ feet. Taller legs are needed for RVs, lift kits, overhead storage, or commercial equipment.
What is the difference between vertical and horizontal panels?
Vertical panels run top to bottom, allowing water and snow to slide off easily. Horizontal panels run side to side and are used on regular and boxed-eave roofs. Vertical panels are more durable and recommended for areas with heavy rain or snow.
What type of steel is used in your metal buildings?
Our buildings use commercial-grade Galvalume steel — an aluminum-zinc alloy coating over a steel base that provides superior corrosion resistance compared to traditional galvanized steel. Framing members are available in 14-gauge (standard) or 12-gauge (heavy-duty) steel tubing, and panel siding uses 29-gauge sheet metal with a baked-on polyester paint finish that resists fading, chipping, and chalking for years.
What is the difference between purlins and girts?
Purlins are the horizontal framing members that run across the roof between trusses — they support the roof panels. Girts are the horizontal members on the walls that support the wall panels. Both are included in your building's frame and contribute to its overall structural integrity. In our buildings, purlins and girts are made from the same gauge steel as the main framing for consistent strength throughout the structure.
What type of fasteners and anchors are included?
All hardware is included with your building at no extra charge. We use self-tapping Tek screws with neoprene washers to secure panels — the washers compress against the metal to create a watertight seal at every fastener point. Concrete anchors (typically 30-inch rebar or auger-style anchors) are also included and installed as part of the standard setup. For asphalt or ground installation, mobile home-style auger anchors are used.
What are J-trim, corner trim, and ridge caps?
These are the finishing components that complete your building and keep it weathertight. J-trim lines the edges of panels at doors, windows, and openings to create a clean, sealed edge. Corner trim covers the joints where wall panels meet at building corners. Ridge caps run along the peak of the roof where both sides of the roof panels come together. All trim pieces are color-matched to your building at no additional charge.
Do your buildings include bracing for structural support?
Yes, all of our buildings include diagonal wind braces as part of the standard frame package. These steel braces connect the vertical legs to the horizontal frame members and prevent the structure from racking or swaying under wind loads. Buildings in high-wind areas or with wider spans may include additional bracing or gusset plates as required by engineering specifications for your location.
What is a base rail and why is it important?
The base rail is the bottom horizontal frame member that connects your building's vertical legs at ground level. It serves as the anchor point for wall panels and the attachment point for concrete anchors. Standard buildings include a single base rail, while heavier-duty buildings feature a double base rail for added strength. The base rail also helps distribute the building's weight evenly across the foundation.
Color Choices
Are there extra charges for certain colors?
No. All standard color options are included at no extra charge. You can mix and match roof, wall, and trim colors to create exactly the look you want without paying more.
What are the most popular metal building colors?
The most popular combinations are Pebble Beige walls with Burnished Slate or Clay trim, and Pewter Gray walls with Black trim. Earth tones are the most requested overall because they blend well with residential properties and natural landscapes.
Can I see color samples before ordering?
Yes. We can provide physical color swatches or high-resolution digital color charts so you can see exactly what each color looks like before making your decision. Keep in mind that colors may appear slightly different on screen versus in person.
Do your metal buildings come in two-tone color options?
Yes. Two-tone buildings are very popular — you can choose one color for the upper walls and a different color for the lower section (wainscoting). This adds visual interest and gives the building a more finished, professional appearance.
What is the paint system used on your metal panels?
Our panels feature a baked-on Silicone Modified Polyester (SMP) paint system that resists fading, chalking, and chipping. This industrial-grade finish is designed to maintain its appearance for years with minimal maintenance.
How many color options are available for metal buildings?
We offer 16 standard colors for your building's roof, walls, and trim — including classic neutrals like Pebble Beige, Clay, and Light Gray, as well as bold options like Barn Red, Forest Green, and Burgundy. You can mix and match different colors for the roof, walls, trim, and wainscoting to create a custom look. All colors use a durable baked-on polyester paint finish that resists UV fading.
Can I choose different colors for the roof, walls, and trim?
Absolutely. Every building order lets you independently select colors for the roof panels, wall panels, trim pieces, and wainscoting at no additional charge. Many customers choose contrasting trim colors to highlight their building's lines, or match their home or business colors. Our building specialists can help you visualize combinations and suggest popular pairings that look great and enhance curb appeal.
What is the most popular color combination for metal buildings?
The most popular combinations tend to be neutral-on-neutral pairings. Pebble Beige walls with Barn Red or Earth Brown trim is our top seller for residential buildings. For garages and workshops, Light Gray with Charcoal trim is extremely popular. Commercial customers often choose White or Light Stone walls with a contrasting darker trim. Two-tone wainscoting — using a darker color on the lower portion of the walls — adds a finished, upscale look.
Will the paint on my metal building fade over time?
Our panels feature a commercial-grade baked-on polyester paint system that resists UV degradation, chalking, and color fading significantly better than field-applied paint. Under normal conditions, you can expect the color to look vibrant for 15-20+ years. Lighter colors like White and Pebble Beige tend to show the least change over time, while darker colors like Black or Burgundy may lighten very slightly after many years of direct sun exposure.
Can I repaint or change the color of my metal building later?
Yes, metal buildings can be repainted using a quality exterior metal paint or elastomeric coating. Clean the panels with a mild detergent, lightly scuff the surface, apply a metal primer, and then your topcoat. Many homeowners repaint after 15-20 years for a fresh look. Keep in mind that the original factory finish is more durable than most field-applied paints, so it's best to wait until the existing finish has worn before repainting.
Insulation & Climate Control
How much does it cost to insulate a metal building?
Insulation costs depend on the type you choose, the building size, and who installs it. Fiberglass batts are the most affordable option, while spray foam provides the best performance at a higher price. Contact a local insulation contractor for quotes specific to your building.
Can I add insulation after the building is installed?
Yes. Insulation can be added at any time after installation. Many customers choose to insulate later when they decide to heat, cool, or climate-control their building. Fiberglass batts and spray foam can both be installed after the fact.
Do I need a vapor barrier with insulation?
A vapor barrier is recommended in most climates, especially in humid areas. It prevents moisture from condensing on the inside of the metal panels, which can cause dripping and potential damage to stored items. Spray foam insulation includes a built-in vapor barrier.
What is the best way to heat a metal building?
Mini-split heat pump systems are the most popular and efficient option. They provide both heating and cooling, are easy to install, and do not require ductwork. Propane heaters, wood stoves, and radiant floor heating are also common choices.
Can I air condition a metal building?
Yes, with proper insulation. A mini-split AC system is the most popular and efficient choice for metal buildings. Insulation (at least R-13 in walls, R-19 in the roof) is essential for the AC to work effectively and keep energy costs reasonable.
How do I prevent condensation dripping inside my metal building?
Condensation occurs when warm, moist air contacts cold metal panels. The best prevention is proper insulation combined with adequate ventilation — ridge vents, gable vents, or exhaust fans. A vapor barrier between the insulation and panels provides additional protection.
What types of insulation work best in a metal building?
The three most common options are: (1) single-layer vinyl-backed fiberglass blanket insulation — affordable and effective for moderate climates, (2) double-bubble reflective foil insulation — great for hot climates as it reflects radiant heat, and (3) spray foam insulation — the premium option that provides the best thermal performance, moisture barrier, and air sealing. The right choice depends on your climate, budget, and how you plan to use the building.
Do I need insulation in my metal building?
It depends on how you'll use the building. If you're storing vehicles or equipment and don't need climate control, insulation may not be necessary. However, if you plan to work inside the building, use it as a workshop, or store temperature-sensitive items, insulation is highly recommended. Even basic insulation dramatically reduces condensation (sweating) on the interior metal surfaces, which can cause moisture damage to contents over time.
How do I prevent condensation inside my metal building?
Condensation occurs when warm moist air contacts the cold metal interior surfaces. The most effective solutions are: (1) insulation — creates a thermal barrier that keeps interior surfaces warmer, (2) proper ventilation — ridge vents, gable vents, or exhaust fans keep air circulating, and (3) vapor barriers — installed between the insulation and interior to prevent moisture migration. A combination of insulation and ventilation eliminates condensation in virtually all climates.
Can I heat and cool a metal building?
Absolutely. With proper insulation, metal buildings can be heated and cooled just as effectively as traditional construction. Mini-split HVAC systems are the most popular choice because they don't require ductwork and can be installed without modifying the building structure. For larger buildings, central HVAC with ductwork or radiant floor heating works well. We recommend R-19 or higher insulation in walls and R-30 in the roof for climate-controlled buildings.
Are metal buildings hotter than wood-framed buildings?
An uninsulated metal building will absorb and radiate more heat than a wood-framed structure, especially in direct sunlight. However, a properly insulated metal building with reflective or spray foam insulation performs comparably to — or even better than — wood-frame construction. Light-colored roof panels (White, Light Gray, Light Stone) also reflect significantly more solar heat than darker colors, reducing interior temperatures noticeably.
What R-value of insulation should I use for my climate?
For mild climates (Southeast US, coastal areas), R-13 wall insulation and R-19 roof insulation is usually sufficient. For moderate climates (Mid-Atlantic, Midwest), R-19 walls and R-30 roof provide good energy efficiency. For cold climates (Northeast, Mountain West) or if you're fully conditioning the space, R-25 walls and R-38+ roof insulation is recommended. Your building specialist can recommend the right R-value based on your zip code and intended use.
Warranty & Quality
What is covered under the 20-year rust-through warranty?
The 20-year framing warranty covers structural defects in the steel frame, including rust-through perforation under normal use. It does not cover surface rust, cosmetic scratches, or damage from improper modifications, severe impact, or neglect.
Is the paneling warranty different from the framing warranty?
Yes. The framing carries a 20-year warranty while the sheet metal panels carry a separate 10-year warranty against manufacturing defects and rust-through. Both warranties begin on the date of installation.
What is the 30-day workmanship guarantee?
Our 30-day workmanship guarantee covers the quality of installation. If you notice any issues with how your building was assembled within 30 days of installation, we will send a crew back to correct it at no charge.
Does the warranty cover storm or hail damage?
No. Warranties cover manufacturing and material defects, not damage from storms, hail, tornadoes, floods, or other natural disasters. We strongly recommend adding your metal building to your homeowner's insurance policy for weather-related coverage.
How do I file a warranty claim?
Contact us at (888) 234-0475 with your order number and a description of the issue. Photos are helpful. Our team will review your claim and coordinate any necessary repairs or replacements covered under warranty.
What does the 20-year warranty cover?
Our 20-year structural warranty covers the steel framing against defects in material and workmanship. The 10-year panel and paint warranty covers the wall and roof panels, including rust-through and paint adhesion. Our 30-day workmanship guarantee covers the installation — if anything is not right with how the building was assembled, we will come back and fix it at no charge.
How do metal buildings hold up in severe weather?
Very well. Our buildings can be certified for wind loads up to 170 mph (hurricane rated) and snow loads up to 65 PSF depending on your location and requirements. The vertical roof style is especially resilient — it sheds rain, snow, and debris more effectively than other styles. Many of our customers in Florida, the Gulf Coast, and mountain regions specifically choose metal buildings for their storm resistance.
Are your buildings engineer-certified?
Yes. We provide engineer-stamped certification documents for wind and snow load ratings when required for building permits. Certification levels depend on your local requirements — common ratings include 140 MPH wind / 35 PSF snow, 150 MPH / 35 PSF, and 170 MPH / 65 PSF for coastal and high-snow areas. Let us know your county and state, and we will determine exactly what certification you need.
Does the warranty transfer if I sell my property?
Our manufacturer warranties are generally tied to the original purchaser and installation site. If you sell your property with the building on it, contact our customer service team to discuss warranty transfer options. Some manufacturers offer limited warranty transfers while others require the new owner to register the structure. The structural integrity of the building is not affected by ownership changes — only the warranty coverage terms.
What maintenance is required to keep my warranty valid?
Our warranties require only reasonable maintenance: keep the building free of debris accumulation on the roof and gutters, promptly repair any damage from impacts or storms, and avoid modifications to the structural frame without consulting us first. Touching up scratched paint and keeping vegetation trimmed away from the base are also recommended. The warranty does not cover damage from neglect, unauthorized modifications, or natural disasters beyond the certified load ratings.
Ordering Process
How much deposit is required to place an order?
We require a deposit to schedule your order and lock in your price. The exact deposit amount depends on the size and complexity of your building. The remaining balance is due upon completion of installation. We accept major credit cards, checks, and bank transfers. For RTO (rent-to-own) orders, only proof of income and a valid ID are required — no traditional credit check.
Can I change my order after placing it?
Yes, in most cases modifications can be made before your building goes into production. Common changes include adding doors or windows, changing colors, or adjusting dimensions. Changes made after production begins may result in schedule delays. Contact your building specialist as soon as possible if you need to make changes — we are flexible and want to make sure you get exactly what you need.
Do I need a permit for my metal building?
Permit requirements vary by state, county, and municipality. Many rural areas do not require permits for structures under certain sizes, while urban areas and HOA communities typically do. We strongly recommend checking with your local building department before ordering. We can provide engineer-stamped plans and certification documents that are commonly required for permit applications.
Carports
What are the most popular metal carport sizes?
The most popular sizes are 18x21 (single car), 20x21 and 22x21 (wide single), 24x26 and 24x31 (two cars), and 30x36 or 30x41 (three cars with extra storage). We build carports from 12 feet wide up to 60+ feet wide and virtually any length, so you can get exactly the size you need.
Can I customize the height of my metal carport?
Yes. Standard leg heights start at 6 feet, but we offer heights up to 16 feet or more at the eave. Taller legs are popular for RVs, boats, trucks, and equipment. Just let us know the clearance you need and we will build to your specs.
What colors are available for metal carports?
We offer 16+ colors for your roof, legs, and trim — including popular choices like Pewter Gray, Pebble Beige, Burnished Slate, Black, and Clay. You can mix and match colors at no extra charge to create the look you want.
Can I add side panels, doors, or windows to my carport?
Absolutely. You can start with an open carport and add side panels on one, two, or all three sides for weather protection. You can also add roll-up garage doors, walk-in doors, and windows. Many customers start open and enclose later as their needs change.
What wind rating do metal carports have?
Our standard carports are certified for wind loads up to 150 mph depending on your location and building configuration. We check your local building code requirements and engineer your carport to meet or exceed them. If you are in a high-wind area, we recommend 12-gauge framing and a vertical roof style for maximum strength.
What snow load can a metal carport handle?
Snow load ratings depend on your roof style and steel gauge. Our vertical roof carports with 12-gauge framing can handle up to 65 PSF (pounds per square foot) of snow load. We engineer each building to meet local requirements, so just tell us your location and we will make sure your carport is rated appropriately.
How is a metal carport installed?
Our professional crew delivers and installs your carport — typically in a single day. They anchor the structure to your concrete pad, asphalt, or compacted gravel surface. The entire building package (frame, panels, trim, fasteners, and anchors) is included. All you need is a level site ready for installation day.
How long does delivery and installation take?
After you place your order, typical delivery and installation happens within 4 to 8 weeks depending on your location and the time of year. Our team will contact you 7 to 10 days before installation to schedule the exact date that works for you.
Do I need a concrete pad for a metal carport?
Not necessarily. Metal carports can be anchored to concrete, asphalt, or compacted gravel. Concrete is the most durable option, but gravel works well for open carports and is more affordable. We will recommend the best foundation type based on your building and local requirements.
What is the difference between 14-gauge and 12-gauge steel carports?
14-gauge steel is the standard and works well for most residential carports. 12-gauge steel is 20% thicker and stronger — recommended for larger carports, areas with high winds or heavy snow, and anyone who wants maximum durability. We can help you decide which gauge is right for your location and building size.
